Carol
Franklin |
 |
I have lived in Austin since 1986. Through my work
as a picture framer, I've been exposed to different
art media, and have "discovered" a few that spur my
creativity. Polaroid transfers are fun, easy, and instantly
gratifying to create. I like to use a macro lens to
get close to the subject matter, and the small scale
of the transfers then draws the viewer in close to inspect
the image. These colorful little pieces speak to my
sense of humor, my tendency to find a skewed view of
the ordinary.

Brian
Wootan |
 |
These paintings are my interpretations of "essential"
organic forms that I see in nature: in a piece of driftwood
found by the path, a blooming flower, a knarled hanging
branch, or simply in a rotting kiwi oozing out it's
juices. The forms within these small worlds underlie
a large part of my reality and yours. Consequentially
nature is both my medium and muse. By painting the essential,
sometimes obscure forms of nature, I am exposing my
inner world to you through the lines, colors, and textures
that you see. Not only do I reveal my world, but I discover
and intensify it as I paint. In the humble parts of
nature I find myself and,in turn, my paintings find
me.
Brian Wootan graduated with a BFA from Texas Tech University.
He currently paints and lives in Austin.

Jaime
Castillo (University of Texas Intern Program) |
 |
Born and raised in Chicago, Jaime Salvador Castillo
now lives in Austin, Texas. Ever since his brother bought
him his first comic book, Jaime has been a student of
the arts. Drawing and redrawing his favorite superheroes
has led Jaime to explore the human figure in all graphic
mediums, and just recently in oils. Since the birth
of his daughters, his work has reflected the emotions
a father experiences adoring his children. With his
work on temporary hiatus, Jaime has associated himself
with the ART Hive. As intern he is discovering the intricacies
of being a freelance artist as well as a fine artist
living in Austin. Burdened with the trivialities of
life, Jaime wages battle against school and work in
search of more time with his wife, kids, and art.

Bonnie Brushwood |
 |
Bonnie Brushwood is insane. Or at least that's what you'd think, to look at her unique frog images. Each frog is a pen-and-ink drawing composed of thousands of words, written in a unique stream-of-consciousness style. These words cover topics as simple as the frog subject, and as intimate as Bonnie's personal thoughts about art. 28 year-old Bonnie graduated Cum Laude with a studio art degree at Southwest Texas University. Her works have hung in over 11 exhibitions, and she joined the Art Hive in May of 2001. When not working on her art, Bonnie tours the nation with her husband, cares for her 2 dogs, and enjoys old fashioned letter writing.
