This painting is a reaction to the struggles of being a freelance artist. I refer to many of the opportunities I’ve been presented through the years as golden carrtots. Many times I’ve chased the golden carrot only to be led down a path I did not want to take only to watch the carrot wither and drop away. Here, I am a puppet with no strings. I am in the facepaint of a clown. My left face is smiling while my right pulls down into a frown. The nose is enormous and tipped with a bright red nose. A small, orange carrot dangles glowing from a string in front of me and my left hand reaches to grab it. Green fields, farms and pastures spread out in the distance of the background.
